How To Find Niche Market

You want to start a business. You have to know how to find niche market. There are so many niches in the market, which one to choose?

It will be easier to start with your interest and passion. By doing this you’ll be able to share your own experiences with your audience.

What Is A Niche?

A niche is a group of people looking for specific information or products.  This group of people is your target audience.  They are looking for solutions to their problems and you’re going to help them find the solutions.

How To Choose A Niche for Affiliate Marketing

One of the most important decisions in affiliate marketing is to choose a niche market.  It is good to choose a niche that you are knowledgeable or passionate about.  Besides knowledge and passionate, your niche must have a large enough audience. You do not want to choose a niche that is too narrow or too broad. if your niche is too narrow, you will not have enough audience. On the other hand, if your niche is too broad, you will face the competition. This is a business, you also want to choose a niche that you can solve your target customers’ problem and it is profitable at the same time.

Let us look at this example:

Help for hair loss in women.  There are many women having hair loss problem and they are looking for information and solutions online.  This is a targeted niche. You aim to help this group of people by providing them with information and products that will solve their hair loss problem.

These are the 8 steps you can use to find your niche.

1. Identify Your Interest and Passions

Start making a list of 10 interest and passions areas, and narrow down to the final one.

2. Identify how you can help or solve problems in this niche.

Identify a niche that has many problems and many people are looking for solutions. You do your research to provide them with information and recommend products that solve their problem. People are happy to spend money to make their life easier.

There are a few steps you can use to identify problems in a niche

  • Check on Quora and other forum site related to your niche. Identify the types of questions asked by people and identify what problem do they have.
  • Check on Google and Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool to find out what keywords are used in their search term for questions.

3. Research Your Competition

You want to choose a niche that has a lot of competitors. When there are many people interested in a particular niche, there is lots of money to be made and there is lots of competition as well. To compete with your competitions, you have to produce high-quality, detailed contents that help your audience solve their problems.

If there is no competition for a particular niche, it doesn’t mean that no one thought of it, It might be there is not profit for that niche.

Think of your niche as a pie. It is always easier to get a piece from a big pie.

4. Profitability

Can you profit from this niche market? this is the question you want to ask yourself. You must treat your online business like any other business. You provide your audience with solutions to solve their problem. In exchange for that, you earn your commission.

5. Listen to Other People

Sometimes we can hear from our friends, family, co-workers, and others talk about their interest and hobby. This can be a niche market to explore.

6. Latest Magazine

Look into the latest magazines, see what is popular. If an item is popular, the advertisers will spend money to promote it.

7. TV Commercials

TV commercials always sell trendy products. This will give you ideas on the popular and newest items in the market.

8. and

Go to and to see what is ‘HOT’ over there. This will give you more ideas on what products to sell.

Big Pond, Little Fish versus Little Pond, Big Fish

Big Pond, Little Fish – Some marketers like to be in this market where they can profit from just a small piece of a big pie.

Little Pond, Big Fish – In this segment, the niche is more specific, there are not many competitions and you can become an expert in this segment.

Which market place do you want to be? There is no right or wrong answer to this. You make a choice.

Once you have chosen the niche market you would like to explore, you can look further to see if there is any untapped opportunity within the niche. You can research further into sub-niches.

Focus on one specific niche to work on, and become the go-to person for that niche.  it is not advisable to be ‘Jack of all trades and master of none’

If your first niche does not work well, find a new niche. Learn from your previous experience to identify what is working and what is not. I am sure you will find a few niches that you can work on.

Once you know how to find niche market and have decided on your niche, you have to create a website.

  1. As stated in this post there are key factors that should or would determine if a niche is ideal or would be profitable. I think you are absolutely right about going for passion when picking a niche but in my experience, I would not consider this a must because some passion cannot be profitable.

I do believe in going after a niche you might like to know more about or a niche that interests you in some way. When you are curious about a niche you find out that you would be more interested in it and therefore spend more time on it.

There is every chance that this might lead to profit but as history shows, this might not always be the case. No matter one’s interest or passion if the niche they go for is not profitable or does not have a lot of search volume then they might just be wasting their time in building their website using that particular niche.

    • Hi Jay,

Thank you for your opinion on niche market. You got the point. Not every interest or passion is a profitable niche.

We have to spend some time doing our research to find out if there is any search volume for the niche.
      Best wishes to you.

  2. I like to be that big fish in a little pond. I’ve been blogging for years now and I realized how profound that principle is if you are to make money online.

The world is now saturated with information and competition, and if you’re weak, chances are you won’t make any.

So, to be sure that you will earn, then why not dominate the game. That’s the reason why in spite of changing niche several times in that journey, I decided just recently to get more focused and trim down my niche to get more accuracy.

  3. Creating niche is one of the correct step toward creating a standard website. When my website was still in the making, I used to have negative feeling about niche choosing as an act that is very difficult to do. The moment I realised that creating niche should be based on my interest and passion, then I was able to ‘crowl out of impossible shell’. When a correct niche is choosen, the website will be fast in attracting visitors. We should also be careful in choosing niche that are very popular, to avoid being beaten up by a very high authority websites. It is better to stay in between. Thanks for sharing this review. It is very educating and helpful.

  4. “It is always easier to get a piece from a big pie.” – I’ve never thought of it that way but it totally makes sense. I mean, let’s be realistic here. What are the odds that you will find/invent a new niche that is also incredibly popular and profitable that someone else hasn’t thought of yet in a world with 7 billion people and a great amount of already established full-time online marketers?

The chances are (to be frank) not that great. They’re very slim, in fact. Thus, while it does somewhat go against conventional wisdom, it makes so much sense.

And I believe profitability is a HUGE factor. You have to have somewhat of a high-ticket items. That way I think it’s way easier to move to full-time than it would be if for every purchase you get something like $2.

Just wanted to quickly share my personal thoughts, thank you for all the other insights as well. I appreciate it.

    Have an Amazing Day,

  5. I did find the article pretty insightful. Much of it I had heard already but there were a few really interesting points that got me thinking and challenging what I thought I already knew for a fact.

For example, the idea of the bigger pie did really get me thinking. Same with the big fish and small fish. Other than that, I feel the first two steps were incredibly profound. Listing a number of passions and interests before actually deciding on one to pursue can give you that broad insight and feeling that you have really weighed your options. And at the end of the day, it can have a significant impact on your later business if you, for example, realize that there was a passion of yours you would have preferred much more over the one that you picked but for some reason, you just didn’t think of it initially.

Identifying problems I feel is also huge. Cause we are essentially offering a solution to a problem every time. Whereas if there is no problem, then you probably won’t be able to help anyone as they don’t really need help. Or if you don’t understand the problem correctly, you might be leaving huge sums of money on the table. Which needless to say, is not ideal.

Overall, very insightful and resourceful, thank you, Christine!

Cheers, and have a Great One!

    Carpe minutam,
